Inlays and onlays are custom restorations for teeth with damage that's too large for a filling but not severe enough to need a full crown. An inlay fits inside the grooves of a tooth, while an onlay also covers one or more of its raised points, called cusps. Both strengthen the tooth while keeping more of your healthy tooth structure.
Dr. Mejia removes the damaged area and takes a digital scan of the tooth. When same day CEREC is a good fit, your inlay or onlay is designed on screen, milled in our office, and bonded at the same visit. That means no temporary and no second appointment.
Inlays and onlays are stronger than large fillings and more conservative than crowns. They help protect a weakened tooth from cracking and make chewing comfortable again. Because they're made from tooth colored material, they blend in with your smile.
