You breathe a blend of nitrous oxide and oxygen through the nasal mask. Within a few minutes, most people feel calm, light, and a bit warm. We adjust the level to keep you comfortable throughout your visit. When treatment is done, you breathe pure oxygen for a few minutes and the effects wear off quickly.
Nitrous makes dental visits feel easier, especially if you're anxious, have a strong gag reflex, or need a longer procedure. Time often seems to pass faster, and minor discomfort is easier to handle. Because you stay awake, you can still talk with us and respond the whole time.
