An oral cancer screening is a quick, gentle check of the soft tissues in your mouth, throat, and neck. Dr. Mejia looks for sores, patches, lumps, or color changes that could be early signs of oral cancer or other concerns. It's included in every comprehensive exam at Atlas Dental, so you don't need to ask for it.
Dr. Mejia looks closely at your tongue, cheeks, gums, the roof and floor of your mouth, and the back of your throat. Next comes a gentle feel along your jaw and neck for anything unusual. There are no needles and nothing uncomfortable. If something stands out, we'll talk it through with you right away.
Oral cancer is much easier to treat when it's found early, but early signs are often painless and easy to miss on your own. A regular screening puts a trained set of eyes on areas you can't easily see. It's one of the most important parts of every exam we do.
